Especially in cycling, the fate of "luck" is often what you make it. Things happen quickly and so much depends on your diligent awareness. It's important to visualize riding safe or performing well every time you get on the bike. Whether you're about to go on a club ride, race in a criterium or make a big downhill run. Remind yourself before you start: no crashing, ride aware and make the extra effort when it counts. 

A great quote from Greg LeMond, "always put yourself in a position to win." That also means staying out of trouble.
